Silk Painting With Lola Fonseca A Master In Madrid "IndyWatch Feed Craft"

silk paintingLast summer, my family and I took a much-anticipated trip to Spain.  I had not been back to Spain in more than 15 years.  As you can imagine, my memories of Madrid revolve around leather, fabric, lace and heavily embroidered shawls and are still very much intact in my mind. sewing: rayon challis biscayne blouse "IndyWatch Feed Craft"

This post is written by Kristen of Sewimnewhere.

I had been eyeing the Biscayne Blouse for a few months but the thought of sewing my first placket kept me away. Im a self taught garment sewist, and I hadnt had the courage to learn about plackets just yet. Had I known how in depth and precise Hey Junes directions were, I would have sewn a rayon challis biscayne blouse up sooner.

I chose the navy triangle texture rayon challis (the shop was out as of this post, but this fabric is very similar) because 1- I have a thing for all rayon challis fabrics, and 2- I knew I was going to sew something with it the moment I saw it on the website, and boy, it did not disappoint!

Upon printing the instructions, I was still uncertain about whether my sewing skills were up to the challenge. Im a hands on person, and if I try to just read instructions by themselves I get overwhelmed.

I made up a quick muslin using an old bedsheet and found the all the instructions were clear and concise, and they included extra pointers too. I was so proud of myself finishing that first placket, even if it was out of a sheet and destined to live in my sewing room.

When I started on my- oh so soft- rayon challis, I went slow and precise cutting out the pattern. I find when attaching fusible to smaller pieces its easier for me to attach a larger piece of fusible and then cut the pattern piece straight out of the fabric with the fusible attached. Everything stays put, and it keeps shifty rayon fabric from stretching on me.

However, on my next blouse, I will only add fusible to part of the right placket piece as I feel the placket ended up a little stiff and heavy for the rest of the blouse....

Origami-Inspired Architecture, Fashion, Furniture, and Home Goods "IndyWatch Feed Craft"

Have you ever noticed that Japanese origami is often seen in our daily lives? I don't mean actual paper folding or cutting, kirigami-style... I'm talking about the influence of sharply creased lines...

Autumnal Sunset - A choker and cuff "IndyWatch Feed Craft"

Hello and Happy Monday to you all!

This whole week is going to be slightly different on the blog, so we are skipping the instagram inspiration Mondays which has been the practice here for quite a long time.

Instead I want to prolong the promotion of my Victoriana collection that went live on Friday.

For those of you who missed it, here's what it is all about.

vacation "IndyWatch Feed Craft"

IMG_20180509_174034_602

We recently went to Kauai and was magical. We all love it there so much. We were staying on the south side, far away from the water damage and flooding from last month. This photo was taken at Shipwreck Beach. Unreal.

We hadn't been there in the two years and I feel like there was even more amazing food than before. We stayed in a condo so we could cook and and take full advantage of the farmer's markets.

Unrelated to all of this, I am sewing high fashion vintage style doll clothes. It's addictive and kind of sadistic. I am also getting ready for my birthday this week, which means not much really. But I think I will schedule a pedicure. I am trying to get motivated to deal with our yard, but I am bad at yard clean up. I'm great at buying plants, however.
